Kitchen Makeover: Before & After

A client of mine in Toronto approached me to oversee the redesign of their kitchen in the countryside. The existing kitchen was dark and outdated with royal blue laminate countertops and natural wood cabinetry; however, I knew immediately the space had great potential because of the striking windows that brought in so much natural light.

Our first project was to update the ceiling and floor. We raised the ceiling of the kitchen to the roof line and added reclaimed barn board beams. We used a reclaimed white wash wood for the ceiling to magnify the brightness of the space. To keep the rustic feel consistent, we updated the floors with reclaimed wood. We chose to lay the wood in an unexpected herringbone pattern to keep the look fresh and unique. Fortunately, the original cabinetry was still in great condition, so we painted it white to keep the project budget friendly while giving it a clean updated look. A new stainless steel farmhouse sink and faucet, and Caesarstone countertops (#2003, concrete) complete the look.
